But the first critical piece of this process is knowing where you are. If you don’t know that, you can’t get anywhere.
So the first step in this process of designing and building an Untethered Lifestyle involves getting clear on where you are.
As a matter of fact, I often tell clients that 85% of this process involves looking inward. Only about 15% involves looking outward for opportunities.
We’ll cover both sides in this mini e-course helping you design and build an untethered lifestyle.
Here we go…
>> LESSON1: Get clear on your personality, proficiencies and passion.
Your Personality
Don’t try to make something happen outside your natural”bent” when it comes to ideas.
- Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
- Do you like working indoors or out?
- Do you work best alone or with a team?
Personality should play a big role your choices as you consider how you will fund your new lifestyle of freedom.
- What are my areas of expertise?
- Which of the answers in the previous questions above are the most likely to be transferable across multiple areas of potential in.c.ome streams?
- Is there some area about which I know more than 75% of the population?
- What unique experiences could I capitalize on?
- What aspect of my work experiences have I enjoyed the most?
- What have I done before that made me feel the most alive?
- What aspect of my current work experience do I loathe and would love to never have to do again?
“Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” -Hebbel
Just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean that you should be doing it.
Question, are you passionate about it?
Thomas Stanley, in The Millionaire Next Door, says that of the millionaires who were studied in their research the one thing that they had in common was that they each found fulfilling work that they truly loved.
It’s not only okay to consider your passion, you must.
As a matter of fact, if you can’t allow yourself to get clear on what your passions are, it is highly unlikely that you will find success and ultimately achieve an Untethered Life.
Your passion is a clue to your life purpose, a clue to your calling.
And one of the most exciting parts of designing and building and Untethered Lifestyle is allowing yourself to explore what you love and what the possibilities are.
Consider your answers to these fun and revealing questions:
- If you inherited a million dol-lars today, what would you do with your time?
- What activities or areas of service do you engage in that make you feel alive and “in your groove?”
Go a step further:
- What are your values? What in life matters the most to you, tangible and intangible?
- What are your dreams? What in your childhood did you dream about doing that might have been buried beneath the demands of life and your current career?
As Stephen Covey, author of Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, puts it: we must “begin with the end in mind.”
Mark this: You must get into the mindset of planning your work around your life, not the other way around.
Whatever your future internet-based income streams, they need not conflict with your personality or your passion. Those are the things that will truly allow you to express your life purpose and calling as your build income streams that allow for their fulfillment.
